Volunteering with CancerCare can be a great way to make new friends, gain new experiences and give something back to the local community.vols

If you can spare an hour or two each week, each fortnight or even a few times a year we want to hear from you. We welcome people with a whole range of skills and abilities. No experience is necessary and training and support is offered. Volunteers need to be 18+.

What you can do?

Driving – some of our clients need help to get to appointments at our centres in Lancaster, Barrow and Kendal. We will reimburse your travelling expenses for this. Drivers must have access to their own vehicle.

Reception – our centres in Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow are open to the public during the week from 9am until between 5pm and 8pm. Our volunteer receptionists staff the reception desk to welcome the clients and answer the phone. Volunteer receptionists must be friendly, approachable and have a professional manner.ReceptionVolunteer

Distributing leaflets – we create leaflets to advertise the services that we provide and to advertise our fundraising events. We always need help to distribute these across the local community from Garstang to Barrow and in between.CollectionVolunteers

Gardening – our Slynedales Centre in Lancaster is a large Victorian former family home with extensive gardens that need regular maintenance.GardenVolunteers

Giving talks – this is another way to advertise our services and the difference that we make to local people’s lives.Sarah Andrea presentation

Helping at coffee mornings – whether that is by baking a cake, making tea and coffee, or chatting to the clients and customers your help is welcomed.CoffeeMornVolunteers

Helping at fundraising events – every year we hold a number of events and always need willing volunteers to be on hand on the day. From Kendal StarWalk, to the Cross Bay Challenge, to the Pooch Parade, there is an event for everyone. Opportunities include event marshalling, catering, goodie bag helpers. Events volunteers must be organised, reliable, hardworking and enjoy working in a team.volunteers web

Supermarket fundraising collections – this might be bag packing or encouraging supermarket shoppers to part with their change.Tom StoreCollection
