LoveLinks project - Bids open!

A silver jewellery maker from Lancaster is giving people the chance to own a unique piece created to symbolize the hope and strength provided by CancerCare.

Earlier this year Rachel Hearne, who runs our Creative Metals classes, launched her LoveLinks community art project which saw dozens of our clients and supporters create their very own silver links which were then combined to create one unique, one-of-a-kind chain 15 feet in length.

The piece was put on display in Arteria Gallery in Lancaster and she had planned to take it on tour to different galleries around the region, however this was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The concept of the project was inspired by the strength members of the group gain from coming together at their weekly sessions. All have been affected by cancer or bereavement either as a patient themselves or having experienced the loss of a loved one.

Rachel has now broken down the link into smaller bracelets and necklaces and they are up for auction with all proceeds going to CancerCare.

Each piece of jewellery is fully hallmarked. made of 100% recycled sterling silver and will be specially gift packaged with the story of the people who created it. Each link is also identified so those involved in the project are able to bid for the piece containing the link they created.

Rachel said: “It was an inspiring project to work on. The need for free therapy services to those affected by cancer and bereavement in our community has grown since March and we and I hope that this auction will give the charity a valuable winter boost of funding.”

All the pieces are available to view on Rachel’s website, along with instructions on how to make a bid. The deadline for bids is 10pm on Sunday 20 December.
