Covid Lockdown Update
Following the announcement of new Government restrictions designed to tackle the coronavirus, CancerCare will be making a number of changes to services between Thursday 5 November and Wednesday 2 December.
Our centres in Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow will remain open and operate during normal office hours, including occasional late nights, however, the range of services we will be offering during this time will be restricted as follows:
- Counselling - In accordance with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) guidance we will only offer face-to-face counselling in exceptional circumstances. If clients are able to access counselling by phone or online then that will be the preferred method. However, if this is not available we will provide face-to-face sessions following a full risk assessment.
- Contact Therapy - All close contact therapies including aromatherapy, Indian head massage, Alexander Technique and reflexology will be on hold until the lockdown ends.
- Support Groups - We will continue to run Re-Fresh Young People’s Peer Support Group sessions for groups of no more than 15. The woodwork group at the Kendal centre will also continue to meet.
We will continue to take referrals for new clients, however, all assessments will be carried out over the phone.
The number of CancerCare staff working from our centres will be limited so that therapists and clients can carry out sessions while coming into contact with as few people as possible. We will continue to take temperatures and ensure all our centres are thoroughly and regularly cleaned.
While we are obviously desperately disappointed to have to reduce our range of services once again, we are confident it is the right course of action to take to balance our role in bringing the ‘R rate’ down while continuing to provide much-needed services to those in need of support.
