CancerCare's Summer Draw raises £7,300!
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Summer Draw, helping to raise an amazing total of £7,300! This year’s Summer Draw was more important than ever as many of the families that CancerCare support, already coping with cancer or bereavement, were hit even harder by the pandemic and lockdown restrictions. In recent months, it has also been much harder to raise funds, with fundraising events having been cancelled by COVID-19.
But thanks to you, the success of the Summer Draw is having an immediate impact!
Director of Fundraising, Emma Athersmith said “Thank you to everyone who bought tickets or made donations. We’ve been overwhelmed with the fantastic response at such a challenging time.
Even as some things are beginning to return to ‘normal’, many local cancer patients are still feeling vulnerable and have to follow strict rules. These funds will help to continue delivering cancer medication straight to their doors when they are worried about leaving their home.
The proceeds of the draw are also helping us prepare for the re-opening of our centres in September. We’re excited to return to being able to provide face-to-face therapies as well as socially-distanced peer-support meetings for the children & young people who access our services.
We are very aware that many of those who visit our centres are clinically vulnerable so we have had to invest in lots of PPE and some improvements to the buildings so that our clients feel totally safe when they come to see us.”
The first prize of £500 and a champagne hamper was scooped by Mrs Yates of Kendal, who generously decided to donate half of her winnings back to the charity. She told CancerCare’s Fundraising Team that she had not yet decided how to spend the remainder of her prize money, but would like to treat her grandchildren when they are finally able to be reunited.
