New creative support group for Barrow
CancerCare receives £25k award!
CancerCare been awarded £25,000 from the Cumbria Community Foundation and The Pappagallino Fund!
The award has been made to enable us to carry out our community support work during the Coronavirus outbreak.
We established a number of innovative ways to support our clients across North Lancs, South Lakes and Furness ahead of the closure of our centres, including a dedicated advice helpline, essential food and medical supplies delivery service and telephone/online counselling and complementary therapy.
We are also setting up a variety of digital platforms to help support the children and young people who come to us for support including dedicated WhatsApp and Facebook groups which they can use to seek advice and keep busy during isolation with engaging activities and workshops.
Chief Executive Maria Chambers said: “Our usual funding streams have understandably been affected in recent weeks so this will go a long way in enabling us to help the people who need us even more due to the social isolation that is currently necessary for many of the most vulnerable people in our communities.”
