New Volunteering Opportunities at CancerCare

on Sunday, 04 January 2015.

CancerCare are looking for new volunteers to join our friendly team to help cover reception at the Kendal Lakes Centre on Blackhall Road.

Help is required to support CancerCare’s busy office by welcoming visitors and clients to the centre with a variety of day time and evening opportunities available.  Applicants must have a friendly, approachable and professional manner. No experience is necessary however full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Volunteering with CancerCare is a great way to make new friends, gain new experiences and give something back to the local community. Sally Ann Mayne (pictured) from Kendal has been a CancerCare volunteer for over 2 years and covers reception duties at the centre once a week.sallyann2

“I’ve had cancer three times now and I am unable to work due to my health. However volunteering gives me the opportunity to get out of the house and meet new people – it helps keep me sane!”

“I am the first face people see when they come to CancerCare so I make sure clients are made to feel as welcome as possible. I understand where they've been and what they're going through."

She adds, "Everyone is so nice at CancerCare. There's no pressure. Volunteering gives me a purpose and the chance to make a difference - I would recommend it to anyone.”
