New 5K Route added to StarWalk 2014!

on Monday, 30 November -0001.

starwalk3CancerCare has added a new 5K route to this year’s StarWalk event to be held in Kendal next month.

The 8th Annual CancerCare StarWalk will see an estimated 500 local people run, walk or jog around Kendal town centre on Saturday April 26th in aid of local cancer support charity CancerCare.  ‘StarWalkers’ will have the choice of participating in a 15k challenge or a newly added 5k route.

This will be StarWalk’s 8th year which has fast become one of the only night walks in Cumbria to welcome women, men and children to take part together to raise thousands of pounds for local people facing cancer.

The CancerCare StarWalk was founded by CancerCare Community Fundraiser Helen Hartin in memory of her mum who sadly lost her life to cancer after a six year battle.

“We decided to add a shorter 5k route this year as so many of our clients really want to be there on the night and take part but are not quite ready to take on the challenges of a 15k.”

“Many of our StarWalk participants use the event as a way of helping them recover after a serious illness and improve their fitness levels.  Others will be walking or running in support of someone they know who has experienced cancer or in memory of a loved one so the atmosphere on the night is very special. It’s a lovely way for local families to get together and achieve something really positive.”

CancerCare supports local people whose lives are affected by cancer as well as their families, carers and anyone who has been bereaved by cancer. They offer a wide range of free professional support services delivered by experienced and qualified staff including counselling, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy massage, creative art therapies and exercise classes to name but a few.  The charity also offers a dedicated Children and Young People’s Service for children as young as three.

The StarWalk has raised over half a million pounds to date all of which helps support CancerCare’s vital work in helping adults and children affected by cancer in North Lancashire and South Lakeland communities.

Entry for this year’s StarWalk is £15 per adult and £10 for under 16s. Entrants will receive a goody bag, bacon butty, and a special edition StarWalk T-shirt on the night.
