The three hour free workshop will take place on November 15th at More Music’s studio at Devonshire Road giving local youngsters aged 11-16 the opportunity to develop their musical skills through singing, song writing, drumming and percussion.

CancerCare currently deliver a number of free support services for local families affected by cancer and other life limiting conditions throughout North Lancashire including professional Counselling and a dedicated Children & Young People’s Service (CYPS)

CancerCare’s Head of Client Services says;

More Music JPEG“We’re really excited to be working with More Music. The music workshop is something we’ve wanted to set up for a while to help us reach out to vulnerable youngsters struggling with life changing issues.”

“The impact of a cancer diagnosis, a serious health condition or the loss of a loved one can be devastating to any of us - it can be even harder for a young person. We find that it’s often difficult for young people to express or articulate their feelings and emotions in the same way that adults do and may often feel unable to talk to a parent or family member.  Our CYPS service provides a safe and confidential space for young people to express themselves in a variety of ways. Music is just one of many powerful and creative tools that can enable young people to explore issues and make sense of what’s happening in their lives.”

The Workshop is open to anyone aged 11-16 years old affected by grief or loss who live in North Lancashire or South Lakeland.  Young people participating in the workshop will also have the opportunity of talking to a CancerCare CYPS Therapist should they require additional 1-2-1 support on the day.

Rachel Parsons, More Music Workshop Music Leader says,

 “It will be a really friendly and relaxed session and a great opportunity for the young people to come along and try something new. Have a go at playing a musical instrument or writing a song – no experience is necessary! It’s all about having fun and making new friends.”
