CancerCare Volunteer Wendy Nominated for Award

on Tuesday, 06 January 2015.

Volunteer Coordinator Andrea Partridge attended a glamorous awards ceremony held in Lancaster’s town hall last week celebrating some of the amazing achievements of local community volunteers.

Award categories this year were Young Volunteer of the Year, Trustee of the year, and Volunteer of the Year - which included CancerCare nominee Wendy Graham.

Wendy GrahamWendy has over 18 years of volunteering service at CancerCare.  With a passion for raising awareness of our vital cancer support services in North Lancashire she has worked tirelessly supporting CancerCare’s community fundraising events and initiatives over the years.

From standing at the end of supermarket aisles with a collection tin; baking trays of yummy cakes to sell at coffee mornings; serving 300 cups of tea at Leighton Hall events; and standing in the pouring rain cheering runners over the finish line – Wendy has dedicated many hours of her own free time to help others and raise vital funds for CancerCare

Wendy’s contribution to CancerCare has been significant and has played a major role in helping us raise over £15 million over the years. Her efforts have helped benefit the lives of thousands of local people in our community affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

Andrea Partridge, Volunteer Coordinator says:

“Wendy’s enthusiasm is truly inspiring to others. She is a natural leader and often takes on the role of welcoming & nurturing new volunteers who join us.”

“In Wendy’s own words, she says – ‘CancerCare means a friend, a prop, an ear, a comforter, in one's greatest time of vulnerability and need.’ We think Wendy is all these things, and more.  She is an amazing ambassador for CancerCare and we were therefore honoured to nominate her for the award.

CancerCare has over 150 volunteers who support the organisation in varied roles including Volunteer Drivers, receptionists, Community Champions, and Community Fundraisers.

Andrea adds:

“Volunteers are the foundation to the success of CancerCare and without their tireless contributions and support we wouldn’t be here. We are so lucky to have such an amazing team of volunteers and I cannot thank them enough. I think they all deserve an award!”
