STMARYSA4JPEG1CancerCare and St. Mary's Hospice are teaming up to offer new support services set to benefit local people affected by cancer and life limiting conditions.

CancerCare and St. Mary's Hospice will now offer a free Adult Counselling Service and specialist support for young people aged 11-18 based in Ulverston.

South Lakeland residents affected by cancer or a life limiting condition such as cardiac, neurological or lung disease - as well as their carers, relatives or anyone affected by bereavement - will be able to access the free support sessions within the Hospice’s newly opened Cavendish Wing.

CancerCare has been delivering professional support services across North Lancashire and South Lakeland for over 30 years from their Kendal and Lancaster centres.

CancerCare’s Head of Client Services Emma Jan says;

“At CancerCare we understand that living with the impact of a serious health condition is more than just a physical issue – it can affect entire families.”

“We are delighted to be working with St. Mary’s Hospice and are very excited about expanding our services in Ulverston. We do already offer limited services in the Furness area but our new base at St. Mary’s is a fantastic opportunity for us to reach out to even more local people in need of vital support.”

Val Stangoe, Chief Executive of St Mary’s Hospice says;

“St. Mary’s Hospice has provided a Family Support Service for people diagnosed with life limiting illness or recently bereaved through use of our specially trained volunteers for many years now."

“We’re delighted to now start working with CancerCare to use resources to better effect and make a bigger difference for local people. The services will now be able to be open to anyone living in the community with life limiting illness or following bereavement rather than only those using other hospice services.”
