Who needs Crufts...with Bark in the Park!

CancerCare's answer to Crufts came to Bowness & Lancaster this weekend with the return of our annual Bark in the Park events!

Nearly 100 dogs plus their owners joined in our sponsored walk and Fun Dog Show events to help raise over £2,000 for CancerCare!

 Bark in the Park Lancaster event, Williamson Park, Saturday 7th March saw 70 dogs plus their owners taking part.

Everyone who took part also received a special doggy bag of treats. Event sponsors Lanes Vets provided a free dog chipping service, kids face painting and also brought along their Little Pet Ambulance. There was also the chance to meet and greet local rescue dogs from Lancaster’s Animal Care Re-homing Centre.

Charles Scanlan and Julie Houldsworth-Houlden from Heysham (pictured with their dogs Fergie & Sadie) said: “Thank you for another fun day at Bark in the Park. Sadie & Fergie had a lovely walk with old friends and new, and we raised £100 for CancerCare in memory of so many family and friends that we have lost to cancer.”

CancerCare Community Fundraiser and Bark in the Park organiser Helen Hartin said; “We had a fantastic day with so many dogs and their owners joining us for a sponsored walk around the beautiful Williamson Park. We’d also like to thank all the local businesses that showed their support by donating prizes and especially the team from Lanes Vets Group who were our main sponsor and went all out to help us raise as much money as possible for CancerCare so that we can continue supporting local families affected by cancer and other life-limiting conditions.”

 Bark in the Park Bowness event, The Glebe, March 8th  saw over 30 dogs plus their owners joining in a 5km sponsored walk over Brant Fell in Windermere.

Everyone who took part also received a Well Done rosette and a special doggy bag of treats.

Chloe Bainbridge and MontyChloe Bainbridge aged 10 from Windermere and her dog Monty (pictured) managed to raise over £100 in sponsorship and said: “My gran died of cancer and my aunt was also poorly last year so I really wanted to raise money for CancerCare. We’ve had so much fun today and Monty also won Judges Favourite & Reserve Best in Show."

Event organiser Richard Cogger said;

“We’ve had another brilliant Bark in the Park this year and it was great to see so many families joining in the fun! The weather was kind to us despite a chilly and breezy start! Thanks to Stella Norman from Milnthorpe Kennels and Sarah Edwards from Muttmate.com for their support, prizes, goodies and for helping to judge the Fun Dog Show."
