CEO of CancerCare Neil's Blog

Hello. I have to confess that I am not a huge football fan but I appreciate that lots of people are.

I hope you will try to encourage friends, family to take part in our 'Football Fever'. This is a great and simple idea which our community fundraising team are promoting. For those on social media, Twitter, etc, please spread the word - its already catching on.

The week started off with a meeting of the GDPR working group. We reflected on the tremendous amount of work that has been done to get us ready and now we have passed the deadline we are not letting our feet of the gas!

There is more to do and we are continuing to work on areas that we continually need to improve.  Please remember that the safe and secure handling of all data within CancerCare is everyone’s responsibility and if in doubt please ask for help.

In the evening our Trustee Board met, praising and supporting the continuation of our approach to mental health in the workplace amongst lots of other business and governance issues.

We also debated the work that our staff have all contributed to on the development of our mission and vision statements.

This week I have completed all the staff appraisals. I have been undertaking this not only with the Senior Mangement Team, but all members of the Fundraising team.

I think across the whole charity, bar a couple of people, we have the appraisals completed and I hope they are giving all of us a sense of not only direction, but energy and drive to push on and achieve more great things in the year ahead.

It’s great when we get praised for our work here at CancerCare and in recent years we have been recognised on a number of occasion by external bodies.

Last night at the CVS Volunteers awards were held in Lancaster. The wonderful Scarletts won for their amazing fundraising and awareness raising 'Knocker Jotter'. Well done all of you and not forgetting one of our young fundraisers, Rory Wood, who was nominated for his wonderful efforts. Well done everyone!

Our award winners, the Scarlett’s and Rory with his certificate.

Yesterday was our Volunteer and Engagement Coordinator Andrea Partridge's birthday, so many happy returns Andrea – what a coincidence that the Scarletts, a project so close to your heart, should win on your birthday!

Today I am finishing of a number of pre-holiday jobs and making sure I am prepared for the week I get back. Alan and I are flying to Madrid at the weekend and are looking forward to a week of culture, food, wine and relaxation. Whatever you are doing have a great weekend, blogging will resume in a couple of weeks.
