Neil's Weekly Blog! #7

on Tuesday, 21 April 2015.

This week I had the pleasure of attending The Bay Prostate Cancer Support Group held at Slynedales on Tuesday evening.

Guest speaker this month was Dr Alison Birtle, a specialist in Prostate Cancer, and it was  fascinating to hear about the very real advances in treatment. Then our very own Samreen Khan (Counsellor)gave a brilliant account of how important therapy can be. The group also held a dinner last week and raised £400,  half of which is to be donated to CancerCare so wonderful all round.

SAM 1190Wednesday saw the return of the NHS Morecambe Bay Cancer Partnership  Group meeting. CancerCare is currently seeking to get more of our clients involved in this  group to help influence not only our services but a direct link to the NHS Trust. In the afternoon I also attended the Cancer Network Group hosted by the North Lancashire Clinical Commisioning Group. This was a useful meeting and links well to our on-going contract with them to deliver services.

Thursday was very exciting as BBC Lancashire came to Slynedales to broadcast LIVE from Slynedales. This went really well and congratulations to everyone who took part! The presenter Sally Naden was genuinely moved by her time here.  You can listen to the programme again by clicking the link below.

On Thursday evening I attended the Carnforth Rotary Club monthly dinner at the Longlands Hotel in Carnforth. I was made really welcome and it was yet another opportunity for me to tell the group about the fantastic work we do. In addition I was delighted to be presented with a cheque for £500, which was very welcome. The original intention was to donate half of to the wife of a member who has advanced ovarian cancer but she wanted it donating to CancerCare instead. I have today written to her personally to thank her for this kind gesture.

Neil
