Good Morning! This week for me it's not been the newspaper headlines about 'Brexit' that - have caught my attention, but the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics which states that 813 people a day are diagnosed with Cancer in England.

An increasing trend with male cancers being more prevalent than female. Sobering information, bringing into sharp focus our continuing purpose to help those who most need our help.

On Tuesday Pam McInnes and I had a lovely afternoon out on sunny Morecambe. We were tempted to have an ice cream but instead stuck to our mission to brief and talk to a group of nursing staff at the Queen Victoria Hospital which was very well received!

businessawardslogoOn Wednesday I spent useful time attending the Kendal receptionist/volunteer meeting. I was able to feedback on a number of developments and also celebrated the latest award nomination CancerCare has received,¬Ý this time from the Third Sector Business Charity Awards which has recognised the unique partnership between Lakeland Ltd and CancerCare. I hope you are filled with pride as¬Ý I am. It's all down to teamwork. Thank you!

Pip Merrimen - 'All this food for me!'

Wednesday was Jewellery Group Tutor Pip Merriman's last day after 12 years at CancerCare where a large group of clients from her groups as well as colleagues gathered around lovely food and super company to say goodbye. Thank you Pip and enjoy your retirement. You really are one of CancerCare's characters and will be missed!

Thursday we held our formal review meeting with StarVale, the company that manage the CancerCare Lottery. Progress on maintaining this vital income stream is excellent and as always we seem to be balancing our approach in a sensitive manner to our fantastic regular players and in attracting new players.

Today is Coffee Morning Day and ¬Ýhere at Slynedales we will be welcoming the Mayor of Lancaster, who is joining us. He has taken a real interest in our work and it will be useful for him to come and see us for real.
