Good Morning! Another very busy week which started in the company of a group of our volunteers from both Kendal and Lancaster at our 'thank you' event held in Morecambe on what felt like the hottest and busiest day of year so far!

LANCASTERCVSSpeaking of volunteers, hot of the press from last night’s local  Lancaster CVS awards I am delighted to report that Martin Ashby (pictured above, 2nd from right) won for fundraiser of the year, receiving a trophy and certificate. Other volunteers nominated were our coffee morning ladies Julie Hanson, Jackie Askham and Wendy Lyth for group recognition. Tom Green as young volunteer and last but not least David Pickering for continuing commitment and service to CancerCare. Congratulations all of you, we are very proud of you.

One of the major areas that the Trustees will be considering is our policy on reserves and the management of our investments. A meeting on Wednesday between Robert, Andrew, Fiona and the team enabled us to flesh out our thoughts and we will be reporting back progress to the August meeting of trustees with clear recommendations. Really timely work given the spotlight that charities and their governance continue to get.

Support from local businesses continues to be forthcoming, thanks to the efforts of our community fundraisers and enhanced by our ever increasing media presence, great work by everyone.  Accountancy firm ICS in Lancaster have pledged to raise £5,000 for CancerCare and Defying Dementia in 2016.

On Thursday I was in London attending the Charity Times annual conference for charity leaders, a free event with a range of fantastic speakers. I brought back information and useful insight on a range of issues from investments, governance, fundraising standards, getting the best out of staff and volunteers to name a few.

I was delighted when catching up on emails on the way back up North to find out from Joan Newby that the Ambleside Drop In (pictured below) annual summer fair last weekend, raised a magnificent £1,036. They never cease to amaze me with their generous spirit. Thank you.

Whatever you are doing have a good weekend!
