CancerCare CEO Neil's Weekly Blog

Good morning, from a bright and sunny Lancaster.

The week has been another busy one and Monday saw my first visit to the Ambleside Drop in Group. The group are busy planning their key events of the year, they never stop! It was an added bonus to be introduced to a lovely young supporter Lilly Dann, who is 9 and been helping out with some of the group’s activities. In recognition of this, and following a nomination, she was awarded the ‘Jimmy Renouf’ trophy, for “Thinking of Others” by her school at Ambleside Primary. Well done and so deserved. Here she is with group stalwart Joan Newby.

On Tuesday I spent the afternoon with Andrew Birchall and Tony Gatrell (Chair and Vice- Chair) interviewing recent candidates for the vacant Trustee positions we have. We have one more person to see next week and then will make a decision. However we had a great afternoon and were impressed with the interest shown.

On Thursday it was a pleasure to welcome Meriel Fishwick, the CEO of CancerForce, based in Exeter and Sarah Delfont, their Therapist/Services lead. CancerForce are possibly the closest match to what we do here and work in similar footprint, covering a city and rural areas. They were so engaging and really took a lot away from many of the fantastic things we do here and we had a useful pick of each other’s brains!

Whatever you are doing have a good weekend.
