CancerCare CEO Neil's Weekly Blog

A busy week of prize draws, Annual General Meeting and looking ahead to Christmas.

Good Morning.

Last weekend I was asked to draw the prize draw raffle for a modern classic sports car, kindly sponsored by Lee Knowles, related to our Jen. The proceeds are being split between ourselves and the children’s ward at Lancaster Infirmary. The winner of the ticket very kindly offered the car back, which will be auctioned through EBay next week. The story is being picked up by classic car weekly and should feature next week. Here’s hoping for a successful outcome.

On Monday we held our regular GDPR meeting, a group made up of staff from a cross section of departments, to ensure that we are compliant next May with some pretty gruelling legislation. I am pleased to say that the team effort and the work is progressing well. We will briefing all staff later this year as it effects every aspect of our work.

In the evening we held the 2017 Annual General Meeting of CancerCare. Thank you to those staff and supporters, as well as trustees who attended the meeting. Our annual report and accounts are available internally and published versions are in reception. The report, which people thought was the best yet really does reflect the tremendous work undertaken in the past year, made possible as I said in my address to the AGM, by PEOPLE. A heartfelt thank you was recorded for all staff, therapists, volunteers, supporters and clients for being part of the year.

At the AGM we also agreed to change the name of the charity, to CancerCare (North Lancashire and South Cumbria), a subtle change, dropping the South Lakes reference as the new name is felt best to represent the geography we cover. All the necessary work behind the scenes to make this happen will be on-going.

Finally on the social side of things, last night a group staff, volunteers and freinds went out firstly for a Pizza then to see half a sixpence, starring our very own Anna Webster. It was a smashing show and a great social night. Well done Anna, this is the first place I have worked with a fellow thespian!
