CancerCare CEO Neil's Weekly Blog

Hello - by the time most of your see this Alan and I will be on our way to North Cornwall for our holiday. I'm really looking forward to a break and sometime to relax.

On our way, we are going via CancerForce in Exeter to visit their support centre. If you remember, the team paid us a visit earlier in the year and we have struck up a very welcome mutual relationship between two very similar charities.

We had a fab time at our Cross Bay walk last Sunday which helped raise over £5,000 for CancerCare  – thank you to everyone who walked for us!

Monday started in Kendal for me, with a planning meeting for the Kendal Gateway event taking place on June 22nd.

lakeland1On Tuesday we visited Lakeland in Windermere where we met Lesley Metcalf, our main HR Lead and had chance for a guided tour as well as getting to spend some valuable time with Sam Rayner, the Chairman and the new Managing Director who has took over from Sam. Our relationship with Lakeland is a very special one and it is always a pleasure to make a visit and keep in touch.

On Wednesday I was back in Kendal before heading up to Barrow to meet with the CEO of Cumbria CVS, Laura Cadman. Laura and I worked together in Carlisle many years ago so it was great to catch up. I also dropped in to see Rachel Minshull, who was busy flitting between local cancer support meetings and continuing to fly the CancerCare flag.

We also had a visit and catch up with our Life-President, Malcolm McIllmurray. Always a pleasure to catch up with Malcolm and share with him the work we are all engaged with.

Have a great weekend and week, blogging will resume on Friday 23rd June.  Some Cornish walks, seafood and good dry white wine are all beckoning!
