Moustache marks centenary of First World War

A man who has grown a moustache in aid of CancerCare for six years on the trot has raised more than £1,000 to help people affected by cancer.

Chris Bownass from Kendal, who is setting up his own taxi driving business, has taken part in ‘Movember’ fundraising efforts each year as some of his friends and family have had cancer.

He said his uncle and one of his close friends are currently being treated for the disease so he wanted to support a local cancer charity.

Chris said: “I think everyone knows someone who is affected by cancer in some way.

“This year I tried to grow a military-style moustache as it was the centenary of the First World War.

“Some people say, why should I sponsor you for growing a moustache, but it’s just another way to recognise and support CancerCare. It’s a great local charity and it helps so many people.”
