Introducing CancerCare's new CEO - Maria Chambers

Read more about our new CEO, Maria Chambers.

We’re pleased to announce that Maria Chambers has been appointed as CancerCare’s new Chief Executive. We’re delighted to have her on board, and are excited to see the progress we make in her extremely capable hands!

Due to her notice period, Maria will not be commencing her new role until September 1st. In the meantime and following my retirement at the end of March, Alison Stainthorpe will be acting up as interim CEO, ably supported by Alison and Emma and our chair Andrew, so we are in good hands.

Maria has worked for the majority of her career for national charities serving people with life-limiting conditions and complex needs. Maria qualified as a teacher through UCLAN, and went on to study significant and complex needs at the school of psychology at The University of St Andrews.

During the last fifteen years she has been Director of Children and Young People’s services for Scope and more recently the Director of Education for Ambitious about Autism. Throughout her career she has been driven to deliver high quality services developed in partnership with people and their families.

Maria serves on the Board of Governors of the Chadwick Centre and has recently become a trustee of Lancaster and Morecambe Citizens Advice Bureau.  Like many of us, Maria’s family have been affected by cancer and family members have in the past used our services. I know from talking to Maria how excited she is to be joining this great charity and “team” with so much to deliver and the energy and determination to deliver brilliance.

In her spare time she enjoys learning Spanish, running and eating cake - so she will definitely fit in here!
