Anna's Fundraising Update

New Year, New fundraising!

Read more about some fantastic fundraising we've had to start 2019.

Hello all and Happy New Year!

We’ve had some great donations to kick off the year, including £120.88 raised by students at the Bay Leadership Academy by bag-packing at Morrisons supermarket, Morecambe. Big thanks to Tiegan, Trev, Callum & Lewis for giving up their time on a Saturday to support CancerCare!

Thanks also to Debbie King, who raised £460.50 by organising a Christmas Bingo event with a raffle, to ‘Strawberry Fields’ who donated the fee given to them for playing at a Christmas party for the residents of Lound Place, Kendal,  to Wendy Graham & Andrea Partridge for raising £92.00 from sales of their homemade marmalade, to Tri-Island Running Club for donating £250 from registration fees to their Frosty Triple Race Series and to the organisers of the John Strickland Memorial Golf Tournament who raised £575.

We have some fabulous events on the horizon and hope you will be able to join us! On Friday 25th January, we’ll have our monthly coffee mornings at Slynedales, Lancaster and the Lakes Centre, Kendal. Come along for tea, coffee, cake and a chat between 10am-12noon – the perfect way to warm up on a January morning! Later that same day, volunteers Patsie Bagot & Wendy Lyth will be hosting their sold-out ‘Whodunit’ evening, encouraging their guests to be super-sleuths for the night and solve a mystery acted out by a troupe of amateur actors (including a number of our staff members)!

Mark your diaries for Thursday 28th February - we’ll be hosting a coffee morning at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston between 9:30am-11:30am and on Friday 1st March, it’s our 80s Games Night sponsored by thebestofbarrowandfurness. Don your fancy dress outfits and relive the 1980s with games such as ‘Bullseye’ & ‘Play Your Cards Right’, all in aid of CancerCare. Grab your tickets here: https://www.cancercare.org.uk/get-involved/events/80s-tv-games-night

We also have some super supporters taking on year-long challenges for 2019 – visit our facebook page to see how you can get involved in an active cha-cha-challenge!

If, like many of us, one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to get fit, why not support CancerCare whilst you do it?  There's a variety of different challenge events coming up which you can do in aid of CancerCare; raising sponsorship to support local families affected by cancer. We’re here to help you smash your targets and you'll get friendly expert advice whilst on your fundraising journey with us.

If walking or running is your thing, join our teams for the Coniston 2 Barrow walk (21 miles) or Keswick 2 Barrow walk (40 miles). As well as being part of a team raising vital funds for our amazing local charity, you’ll get support from a dedicated fundraiser, nutritional hints and tips, training guidance and hints on how to look after your body to ensure those aches and niggles are properly dealt with! Or ask us about our places for the Great North Swim! Grab your goggles and join us for the UK’s biggest open water swimming event! There are only a few places remaining so contact us ASAP at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to make sure you secure yours!

Not into fitness, but still fancy a challenge? ‘Jump for CancerCare’ and take on a skydive from 11,000ft. We’ll be hosting a skydive day on 15th September this year and we want as many skydivers as possible to take part! If you’re looking for a high-adrenaline challenge (even if you’d like to jump before September!) enquire with our Fundraising Team on 01524 381820.

And if you have other ideas for a bespoke challenge, or you’ve already signed up for an event and would like to support CancerCare whilst you do it, be sure to drop us a line! We’d love to work with you!

Told you we are back in the swing of things! More next week!

Kindest regards,

The Fundraising Team
