Anna's Fundraising Update

Hello all! You may recall that, over recent months, we’ve been sharing updates from a team of amazing ladies from Maya Maya in Kendal.

The team’s year-long fundraising efforts culminated last weekend in a sold-out, evening of entertainment - 'Maya Maya goes Monty' - featuring a fashion show, live music, one of the biggest list of raffle prizes we’ve ever seen and an all-singing, all-dancing performance with a ‘big reveal’!

We are over the moon to announce that Amanda Slattery and her team at Maya Maya have raised nearly £18,000 for CancerCare. The funds will be used to support people who are have been affected by cancer in the past, people living with cancer right now and those who may have to face cancer in future. These funds will certainly make a huge difference to the lives of many people in our community - what a phenomenal achievement!

This week we’ve also been busy with one of our biggest fundraising events of the year - Leighton Hall Christmas Fair! Ever a popular event, this year saw more than 400 people join us for the festive fair in the beautiful home of wonderful CancerCare supporter, Mrs Suzie Reynolds. Stalls selling everything from gifts to decorations, mulled wine to Christmas cakes lined the halls, not to mention our fantastic raffle, Champagne wheel and ‘Guess the Weight of the Cake’ competition!

This year’s fair has raised more than £4,000 in support of CancerCare and we are so pleased! Huge thanks to Mrs Reynolds, the whole Leighton Hall team, our incomparable volunteers and all who donated goods for sale and mince pies for our visitors. To see more photos of the fair, please take a look at our facebook page:

Thanks also this week to Tom Green, who has raised £60 by making and selling calendars in aid of CancerCare, to Linda Steward and friends who collected over £300 at a recent birthday celebration and to the families of Kenneth Davis, B Exton and Mary Abel for choosing to make donations in memory of lost loved ones. All donations we receive help to make a real difference to families across North Lancashire and South Cumbria who are affected by cancer or other life-limiting conditions.

One way that you can support CancerCare this Christmas is by giving to our Christmas Appeal. A donation of £10, or whatever you can give, could provide the best Christmas present ever to a family in our local community. To see what difference your donation could make to families like Stacy’s, and to make a donation, please see here:

Last week, we told you about a very special raffle, where you could win a Great British Menu experience with delicious food from the BBC show’s star and local CancerCare supporter, Craig Sherrington. Tickets are still available here:

And this week we have another fantastic prize you could win – a lovingly handmade rocking horse! This will make a perfect Christmas gift and because it’s hand-crafted, it’s completely unique! Make sure you get your ticket to be in with a chance of winning! Enter at:
Plus there’s only 7 days left to get your Christmas Bumper Draw ticket for a chance to win a cash prize of up to £1,900! Purchase your ticket from one of our centres or speak to the Fundraising Team.

Of course, the best bit about all of these fantastic raffles is that every penny raised will fund CancerCare’s amazing support services!

This weekend, our wonderful volunteers are out and about again. Today, we’re in Sainsbury’s, Morecambe selling CancerCare Christmas cards and Toni Riddick’s Best of Britain calendar. Plus look out for CancerCare staff and volunteers bag packing throughout the day for your donations. On Saturday, we’ll be in ASDA, Lancaster with our Christmas Cards, a Christmas Hamper raffle and our trusty blue CancerCare Collection buckets! Do say hello and give generously if you see our lovely volunteers!

See you next week for more fabulous fundraising news!
