CancerCare CEO Neil's Weekly Blog

Good Morning. Here we are at the end of another week and indeed, almost another month.

I popped into the Ambleside Drop in Group on Monday afternoon, for three reasons: one to say simply say hello and do my usual 'what’s going on in CancerCare' slot; two, to eat cake in celebration of Joan Newby’s 95th Birthday (simply amazing!); and three, to have a chat with a couple of individuals from Windermere who are really keen to work with us to start a new drop in group in Windermere.

On Tuesday, I was out of the office to attend a Conference in Manchester, hosted by the Charity Commission, The Fundraising Regulator and Information Commissioners’ Office. Attended by 300 delegates from across the charity sector, small, medium and large charities were represented. There is a mind blowing amount of sometimes conflicting information and guidance available to us at the moment. However, I was encouraged in what I heard and the discussions I had with other charities that we are in a positive place. However, we need to be vigilant and take steps to ensure that our approaches  to keeping data, holding personal information, and how we communicate with supporters, is the best in class.

On Thursday we took partin an open forum discussion in Kendal, hosted by Macmillan's 'Living with and Beyond Cancer' project. A useful session to consider mutual ways that we can all work together to improve the quality of follow up services for cancer patients once discharged across the patch.

Later today a number of us will be representing CancerCare at the funeral of Andy Edwards which takes place today - a celebration of his life which so many of you have been a part of.

I finish tonight for a week’s holiday so blogging will resume on Friday 10th March.
Have a good weekend.

Regards, Neil.
