Facing cancer, whether as patient, carer or member of the family, is almost always a life-changing experience. CancerCare aims to work with people as they come to terms with and manage these changes, in particular by providing relevant information and emotional, social and psychological support.

CancerCare’s services are all offered free of charge by experienced and qualified staff who are selected for their sensitivity and interpersonal skills as well as for their ability in their professional fields. Feeling valued and cared for, and being able to share the cancer journey with others, create a powerful supportive experience, whatever the activity or technique involved. This sharing is an integral part of all our activities.

CancerCare responds to each person’s need for information and for emotional, psychological, spiritual, physical and social support. At CancerCare, we know that a cancer diagnosis is not just a physical issue, but has wide ranging impact on many aspects of life for all those involved. The therapeutic support and information services we offer can help individuals and their families come to terms with and manage the challenges of a serious illness.

Our services are provided by our team of around forty professional therapists, supported by our own management and administrative staff, and a large team of volunteers. CancerCare’s services are offered by people who combine experience in their chosen field with sensitivity to the concerns expressed by our clients.

CancerCare offers a personal, professional and flexible service that is provided in a safe, relaxed and informal setting. Our Therapy Services office at Slynedales welcomes referrals directly from cancer patients and their carers, as well as from healthcare professionals. Children and Young People’s referrals come from families themselves, social workers and teachers. Initially, we meet each person to talk about their needs and preferences and to identify how best we can support them. This can be reviewed later, as needs change.
