CancerCare Silver Jubilee Appeal - 25 Years of Local Cancer Support

From April 2008 to March 2009, CancerCare celebrates its Silver Jubilee - 25 years of supporting local people affected by cancer.

In celebrating our success, we also recognise that significant action is needed now to ensure that we are able to celebrate a further 25 years of successfully meeting the needs of local people in 2033.

Growing Demand

Current statistics show that one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer at some time in their lives. Within the next ten to fifteen years this rate is likely to increase to one in two.

At CancerCare we know that a cancer diagnosis is not just a physical issue, but has a wide-ranging impact on many aspects of life for all those involved.

Thousands of local people are facing up to a cancer diagnosis in their family right now. Many will be feeling lost and uncertain, worried about the future, unsure what to expect, or who to turn to for advice. All will feel that their lives have changed significantly.

The therapeutic support and information services we offer can help individuals and their families to come to terms with and manage the challenges they are facing.

They can improve general wellbeing, reduce anxiety, tension and depression, and help to ease the physical symptoms of cancer and its treatment.

They can also help to reduce feelings of exclusion or isolation and enable people affected by cancer to regain confidence and rebuild their social and economic lives.
