A big thank you to the Year 8 pupils of Ripley St Thomas Church of England Academy raised £750. Each of the 260 Year 8 pupils were given £1 at the end of the summer term and challenged to put it to good use over the summer holidays. Pupils purchased many different things - ingredients to make cakes, sponges to wash cars and many other ingenious ways in which to raise money. The common theme throught was the thinking of the needs of others before one's self. Well to all the Year 8 Pupils.
CancerCare would like to say a big thank you to Anita Huddleston for organising her second 'Snow Ball' event. The Ball which was held on Saturday 26th November at Arkholme Village Hall was a great success again this year and raised an amazing £1,285. Many thanks Anita.

A wave of arrests across the Morecambe and Lancaster area on Wednesday 9th November caused something of a stir as CancerCare, with the help from Morecambe Police jailed 10 local people.
The “Morecambe 10” as they were known were all from local businesses and inc:- Steve Middlesbrough, Kalimba Events, Marie Needham, Morecambe Arndale Manager, Matt Stanaway, General Manager of The Midland, Debbie Cain, LMC Business, Leanne McGrath & Helen Caton from Reid Hamilton, Gerry Farrell, GF Property Sales, Paul Woodruff, The Mayor, Danny from Bay Breakfast and David Morgan from The Best of Lancaster.
A big "Thank you" also to the Officers involved:- Sgt Lindsay Brown, PC Andy Hill, PC Jo Hill, PC Rob Brookbanks and Morecambe Area Co-ordinator Dave Forshaw.
They were jailed at Morecambe Police Station, booked in, mug shots and fingerprints taken then locked in the cells until they raised their ‘bail’ of £500 each. Once that was secured they were released back into the community.
Apparently eager to escape, the inmates put in a phenomena amount of effort and, whilst bail pledges are still being received, it is clear that they have raised thousands for the charity.
As well as friends and family of participants, many local businesses showed great generosity in helping to bail out the “Morecambe 10”.
Ingenious fundraising by Lancaster Royal Grammar School pupils presented several local, national and international charities with cheques of £2500 each recently, following the annual Lenten Charities fundraising programme.
The boys raised an amazing £20,000 over one term this year and presented a £2500 cheque to CancerCare and to Seven other very worthy charities.
Headmaster Andrew Jarman said: “Today is always one of the proudest days in my year. As well as the annual Set Run, and the obvious round of concerts and cake stalls, the boys' fundraising ingenuity never ceases to amaze me”.
One pupil raised £100 by spending the day dressed up as a chicken; wet sponges were thrown at teachers, and paper plane contests were held. A teachers’ karaoke, including renditions of an Eminem song, proved very popular with the boys!
The 3 Counties Challenge - Many thanks to the Rotary Club of Kendal for allocating 80% of the proceeds from the 25 mile family event to us as part of this popular cyclo sportive. The riders enjoyed a glorious day under blue skies riding through outstanding countryside.
A big "Thank you" also to Margaret Goodridge
Margaret Goodridge is a needlewoman with a mission - her fabric and thread skills support our work.
Former infant head teacher Margaret also knows the value of CancerCare. When diagnosed with breast cancer (now successfully treated) she joined our craft group, and found it very helpful to spend time in a supportive setting.
She now expresses her thanks by making beautiful things to sell. Her creations include vibrant pinnies, chintzy tea-cosies, enchanting dolls and beaded silk lavender bags in rich jewel shades. She has a wonderful eye for colours, and loves searching out scraps of ribbon or braid from her “stash” to provide a decorative flourish. Margaret also works with knitting enthusiast Freda Smith, putting the finishing touches to jolly knitted cupcakes and other woolly treats.
Sales of these unique items fund therapy places for other clients who need our support. We are deeply grateful to Margaret and Freda and many other creative supporters for their generous help.
