All CancerCare's services are provided free of charge and we rely heavily on the support and goodwill of our local community for funds to provide them.

In the year to the end of March 2009, the number of people referred to CancerCare ,or who referred themselves, continued to accelerate. This resulted in a further increase in costs and took expenditure to over £1.1Million, all funded by voluntary subscription.

CancerCare devotes the major part (almost 81%) of its total spending to meeting the direct cost of these services, with only small amounts being used for the essential fundraising (14%) and management and administration (4%) without which the charity could not operate.

92% of our present income is from public donations, fund-raising activities, legacies and the CancerCare Lottery, which itself contributed almost 20% of our income. Three charity shops, one in Morecambe, one in Lancaster and one at Lancaster University, which are half-owned by CancerCare and half-owned by another local charity, St John's Hospice, covenant their profits equally between the two charities.
