CancerCare Services
In the year to the end of March 2009, the number of people referred to CancerCare ,or who referred themselves, continued to accelerate. This resulted in a further increase in costs and took expenditure to over £1.1Million, all funded by voluntary subscription. CancerCare devotes the major part (81%) of its total spending to meeting the direct cost of services to cancer patients, their families and their carers.
Administration
A very small part of CancerCare's expenditure (4%) is used for the essential management and administration without which the charity could not operate.
Fundraising and Promotion
A small part of CancerCare's expenditure (14%) was spent in 2008/9 on the essential fundraising activities to help raise the funds to support the charity's services.
Property and Insurance
In the year 2004/5 CancerCare invested over £96,000 in new buildings and equipment to facilitate improvements to client services. The two main elements of this were a conversion of storage and unused space to provide a dedicated location for services for Children and Young people, and the top floor of the main building, following its conversion to support accommodation, was re-equipped and furnished. The largest part of the charity's reserves is the value of the premises we own and from which we operate.
Rapport
Rapport is the magazine we publish three times a year in conjunction with St John's Hospice, who meet half the cost. The magazine includes news and stories from people involved with cancer, plus articles on prevention, care and treatment.
Transport
Our volunteer drivers provide transport to therapies and, where necessary, to medical appointments, for patients and carers who are unable, or not well enough, to make their own arrangements. CancerCare also provides this service for St. John's Hospice
